Veo Cam 3 : A powerful tool for amateur sport & universities (talk w/Leo Debue, Head of Communication, Bordeaux U, France)

Veo Camera just dropped the bomb with its latest Veo Cam 3, set to revolutionize amateur sports like a backstage rockstar. Its prowess in the big leagues is already the stuff of legends, but it's in a unique use case we're diving deep today—aiming its tech-savvy sights on French university sports entities.

This revolution, rolling out with a whisper but packing a megaton punch, thanks to this compact powerhouse. This cutting-edge tech is changing the game for players, coaches, and clubs, offering a glimpse into a future where every move, action, and moment of glory is captured, analyzed, and shared like never before. Picture a camera that tracks the action with no human needed, leveraging advanced AI to ensure no key moment slips by. That's Veo for you. With its dual 4K lenses, it captures the full panoramic glory of the game, zooming and panning automatically to catch the thrilling action. For clubs on a shoestring budget or without the luxury of a professional videographer, Veo offers a peek into the playbook of the pros. However, not everyone's ready to hop on the Veo bandwagon. Critics worry about the depersonalization of sports videography, fearing the loss of live human-shot nuances. Yet, the overwhelming benefits for amateur clubs are hard to ignore. Veo democratizes sports analysis, making tools once reserved for the elite accessible to all. It's a game-changer, leveling the playing field in the most literal sense.

For coaches, Veo is like having an extra set of never-blinking eyes. It allows for post-match analysis with a precision that manual filming can hardly match. AI-driven insights can pinpoint improvement areas, track player movements, and even help in crafting personalized training plans. Clubs can leverage this data to hone tactics, boost player performance, and ultimately, secure more wins. Players stand to gain heaps, too. By reviewing their performances, they can better understand their mistakes, recognize their strengths, and focus on specific development goals. Being informed about a missed opportunity or a great play is one thing, but seeing it? That's where real learning begins. Veo enables athletes to critique their own game, fostering a culture of personal improvement and accountability.

Beyond the field, Veo's impact extends to fans and families. Its live-streaming capabilities mean the thrill of the match can be shared in real-time with supporters around the globe. This feature not only brings the community closer but also opens up opportunities for players to be spotted by higher-level teams.

The potential applications are vast. Universities, amateur clubs, and even advertisers can leverage Veo to enhance their programs, attract talent, and engage their audience. It's a powerful storytelling tool, narrating the journey of a team's triumphs and trials in vivid detail. Yet, despite all its perks, adopting it requires a willingness to embrace new tech and a small initial investment. The return on investment, however, could be monumental, transforming amateur sports into a more professional, accessible, and engaging arena for all participants.

In conclusion, Veo isn't just a camera; it's a catalyst for change in the amateur sports world. It enables teams to play smarter, coaches to train better, and players to grow stronger. But isn't it the ideal tool to aid French university sports, struggling for democratization and visibility to date?

Léo Debue, Head of Sports Development and Communication at the University Sports Association of the University of Bordeaux, weighed in on this topic, discussing a struggling sector he tirelessly and passionately works to uplift. As a content creator, he sheds light on the direct impacts this technology could have on his work, the ROI such a machine could represent, and introduces a niche market for many brands, advertisers, and investors: French university sports.

To kick off this itw, could you share a bit about the tech arsenal you deploy to spotlight university sports? How often do you set the public's heart racing with your communications?

Today, Bordeaux's top-level university sports are all over our generation's indispensable social networks (Instagram, Facebook). Using my phone and my hybrid camera, I try to capture and bring my audience with me, as close to our student/athletes as possible. My resources are very limited compared to a professional club: small budget, small infrastructure, no manpower.

I've already live-streamed French university championships on Twitch (Basketball 3x3, Volleyball), which represents 2 days of competitions broadcasted live with commentary each time. I've always struggled with logistics, connection, camera, cabling… Having all these tasks on one person is a marathon, exciting but risky. I still managed to reach more than 6000 spectators for these two championships, with an average of 300 people watching simultaneously.

Today, I am the only person offering developed and organized communication for a high-level university sports association in France.

What motivates you to devote so much energy to this cause? What goals do you aim to achieve through your actions?

I want to bring real credibility to university sports. The students of ASUBx are part of the French elite. Hopefully, they will be the actors of our future major competitions. Credibility brings the support of companies, external private brands which are crucial for the proper functioning of a national and international association like ours. If we want to progress, compete on the international and national stage, and develop, we need credibility and support. Today, I have brought 3 companies on board with ASUBx, who trust us. A national first, private partners for a high-level university sports association, and I thank them again for believing in university sports: CEVA Animal Health, Bistro Régent, Leader Rent.

The communication around university sports seems close to your heart. Can you tell us more about what drives you to invest in this area?

My goal is to unite and offer a real sports identity to our students on the Bordeaux campus. Following the American model, I want our matches to be must-attend events for all students. That our sporting events, whether they be qualifying matches, French university championships, or qualifying tournaments, become places of meeting, sharing, and emotion.

Integrating Veo Cam into the university sports landscape seems to open new perspectives. How do you envision its use? Who do you think are the main beneficiaries of this technology?

Veo Cam is set to become an essential tool for university sports in the coming years. The specifications of the different leagues of the French University Sports Federation (organizers of matches, French university championships) will increasingly impose the live broadcast of events. With new technologies, live capture becomes more and more accessible, yet knowing how to use it is key. That's where Veo comes in! Easy to use, affordable price, excellent quality. I can see Veo Cam setting up at our university meetings. On all points to improve in our uni sport, Veo responds to an essential point: our media coverage. For family, friends, students supporting our teams from home. But also for a broader and curious public.

Among the many features of Veo Cam, which ones seem the most promising to you? How do you plan to exploit them?

The first feature I think of for our coaches is obviously the replay of matches for performance analysis. A big step for our staff! They also released a special football feature with game analysis, movements, very precise statistics. For me and the comms, the new feature of Veo Cam 3, which does not leave me indifferent, is the live cross-platform streaming! But also the appearance of overlays that can be advertising or not during the broadcast. Recording our matches would serve me in creating new content like highlights in the form of Reels.

Beyond the obvious applications, how do you think Veo Cam could enrich the ecosystem of university sports? Are there other potential uses you envision?

I can see the Veo camera omnipresent at national and international university competitions in the coming years. Easy to use, affordable price, lightweight, ergonomic, a 5G connection, quick setup. Perfect for our competitions.

How could Veo Cam play a role in highlighting your sponsors or partners? How do you currently manage this aspect?

Currently, my sponsors and partners are visible on my digital supports on social networks (Instagram, Facebook) and on ASUBx's jerseys. The overlay feature during our matches' broadcast with Veo Cam offers us another possibility of visibility for them. And this could be a significant commercial argument when I negotiate sponsorship contracts with them. If I can stream or broadcast our matches, I offer them an additional possibility to be visible. And in a sector like university sports where visibility is very limited, it's super important. But it goes further than that. By opening this path, I also gain visibility outright, and it's a virtuous circle.

Finally, if you had a Veo Cam 3 at your disposal right now, where would you take it? What events or competitions would you be particularly excited to cover?

To start, I would have taken it to Rennes, last week, for our last group match of our university football team. The season of the French uni championships being launched, I plan to travel to Nantes, Rennes, La Rochelle, Strasbourg, Dunkirk, Tours, Anglet, and many other cities hosting our championships. It's simple, for ASUBx, it's more than 35 French university championships and more than 40 qualifying matches to reach the elite level.

Internationally, I would have taken it with me last summer, to Spain, Montenegro, Portugal, Croatia, Albania for the European university championships in which ASUBx participated. See you in June 2024 in Hungary for our next European university championships, with Veo Cam 3 maybe?

Finding solutions to give French university sports the visibility it deserves involves implementing new technologies, but this comes at a cost. And we all know today that money can buy visibility.

One thing is for sure, creativity, it can't be bought.
